Privacy policy

Typy helps you use your computer by showing you what to click and what to write. To do that it sometimes needs to see a little of what you're doing. This page says exactly what, in plain words.
Who we are
Typy is made by Shemah Labs in Rwanda. You can reach us at sgwizarobert@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your account. Your email address and a password. Your password is stored scrambled (hashed) by our sign-in provider; we never see it.
- What you ask Typy. The messages you type in the Ask Typy box, the goals you enter in VS Code, and the conversation so far, so Typy can answer follow-up questions. These are sent to our server to get an answer. We don't keep your conversations in our database.
- What's on your screen, only in apps you allow. When you press Alt+Shift+G in an app you have allowed, Typy reads the app's name, the name and type of the box you are in, and the text inside that box (up to 6,000 characters). It sends this with your message. In apps you haven't allowed, Typy reads nothing.
- A screenshot, only if you tick the box. In an allowed app, Typy holds a picture of that one window in your computer's memory. It is sent only if you tick "Include a screenshot" for that message, and it is dropped after sending or when you close the box. Typy never saves it to disk and does not keep it on our server.
- Learning progress. The VS Code extension can save which goals you worked on and which steps you finished to your account, to show your progress.
- Technical records. Our server host keeps short-lived logs (such as your IP address and the time of a request) for security. We also count your requests to apply a fair-use limit.
Who else handles your information
We use other companies to run Typy. They process your information only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: sign-in and our database.
- Render: the servers that run Typy.
- Cloudflare: hosting of this website.
- AI providers: to write an answer, your message, the screen details described above, and a screenshot if you ticked the box, are sent to AI services. Depending on availability these can include OpenRouter (and the model makers behind it), Google, Groq, Mistral and Cloudflare Workers AI, and later Anthropic. Each has its own privacy rules, and some free models may use what they receive to improve their systems. We choose providers with care, but we cannot control what they do.
We don't sell your information.
Please be careful with sensitive things
- Don't type passwords, card numbers, ID numbers or other secrets into the Ask Typy box.
- Don't allow Typy in apps that show secrets, such as a password manager or online banking.
- Typy does not currently remove secrets from the text it reads in an allowed app, so allow only apps you're comfortable sharing from.
How long we keep things
Your account and saved progress stay until you delete your account. Server logs are short-lived. Conversations and screenshots aren't kept by us.
Your choices
- Control what Typy sees. Typy is off in every app until you click "Allow" for it.
- Delete your account. In the Windows app, click Delete account at the top of the Ask Typy window. In VS Code, run the command Typy: Delete My Account. This removes your login and your saved progress.
- Ask us anything, or ask for a copy of your information, at sgwizarobert@gmail.com.
Children
Typy is used by many students. If you are under 16, please use it with a parent, guardian or teacher, and don't share personal details in the Ask Typy box.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll say so on this page and update the date above.
